1) I believe experience can substitute for qualification in gaining employment in the hospitality industry but not in all cases because let’s say a person has a lot of experience in the industry but has no management skills or no supervisory skills. It would not make sense giving this person the job if they are unable do the necessary outputs.

1. In some cases, experience can substitute for qualification depending on the level of experience. In the hospitality industry it is vital that one has the right qualification for the job with critical and analytical thinking skills in order to weigh up opinions, solutions and arguments.

1. Experience cannot substitute for qualification. Based on the fact that the world today is not what it was before and what is being taught in school is a more advance and trendy. They are being taught way beyond there years, in the future, what to expect etc. So a person with experience only know what is going on with in the organization, what the orgnaization taught them, they will only know there own field that they are working in. They will not be able to distinguish between then and now and to "run along" with the time. to be diverse like that of a qualified person. Yes its good to have experience but experience with nothing behind it? No, experience cannot substitute for qualification.

1. In my opinion there are advantages and disadvantages of both experience and qualification but qualification overrides experience. In today’s working environment with a lot of technological changes and improvements every day these jobs require working with your brain and fewer involving manual skill. Having a qualification gives the person a greater understanding. An education gives you theoretical knowledge and analytical skills which will help with fast thinking and the ability to adopt.

There is a chance for someone without qualification to be employed in the hospitality industry. There are still debates on issues like these for both experience and qualification are valuable in the tourism industry.

1. The hospitality industry is evolving and as such both experience and qualification would work hand in hand to be the most successful in this field. Many organizations ask for either/or but again the value of having employees who have actual working experience of best practices and so on as well as the formal training related to the field cannot be undermined.

1. I believe in some instance experience can be used to substitute for qualifications in the hotel industry. In practical environments an experienced may be more qualified as he is able to troubleshoot and think out of the box and solve problems better than someone who is qualified but does not have experience in the field. An example would be for a cook in a canteen concessionary company, in this field someone would be needed who cannot only cook, but deal with everyday situations and problems that might arise, whether its suppliers not getting goods to the kitchen in time or lack of ingredients. In the person with years of experience in the kitchen would be better able to think quickly on his feet and ensure that even with those problems food is prepared and ready for service at the appointed time.
