The main component of the investment appraisal are to be able maximise the shareholder's value, to be able to determine the importance of a project where a decision can be made as to to how rewarding it can be to the company and this also helps in making a long term decision as to future investments and their financial risk. 2. The payback period is the time required for the amount invested in an asset to be repaid by the net cash outflow generated by the asset. It is a simple way to evaluate the risk associated with a proposed project. (Accountingtools.com, 2016)
