Assessment Criteria AC 2.3 Evaluate the services available in a chosen locality for individuals with specific needs Below are questions pertaining to lesson 5. Please ensure to answer each question correctly. Alice Young is 88 years. A former Librarian, she lives on her own in a middle class community in a detached house. She is a physically frail and has on recent occasions fallen and has been unable to get up. On one occasion she fell in the garden, on the second occasion she fell in the hallway and was able to attract the attention of a passer-by, by shouting, on a third occasion it was in the back of the house and it was sheer luck that her nephew Davis happened to be visiting the same day and found her lying helpless; David visits weekly. Alice has no other relatives in the area and she avoids contact with neighbors. She can be quite aggressive if neighbors approach her. The house is dirty and is in a state of very poor repair. David has tried on several occasions to persuade her to allow help in the home but she has adamantly refused. Adapted from Beckett, 2006 Question: As a specific needs person, what services do you think would be appropriate to Ms. Young's situation?

I think Alice should be moved to a home for the elderly or have a care taker visit her on a daily basis. She needs counselling, help in doing her day to day chores, someone to care for her psychologically, physically and emotionally. She needs the aid of a walking stick and a care taker to help her to get around the house easier. Alice needs special attention so that she won't be able to hurt herself by falling.

the service that can be offered is that she would be best to go to a geriatric aid or nursing aid /nursing home, or a helper to assist her.

1.so I would suggest that Alice is to be brought to a nursing home for special care and assistant or the government should take up in hands and ensure that she has someone at home to care for her

In this case Ms Young is unable to take care of herself as she's so frail and as a result she had 3 incidents which could have taken her life. she has no one around her to care for her as her nephew only visits once per week, the service that would be appropriate for her would be a nursing home as she would get the proper help, care and attention she would need in her stage.

1. Has a special needs person Ms Young would need a monitoring device that will to check her health and signal help whenever she is in need without her doing it herself. Seeing that she does not like persons around her this would benefit her a great deal for the next she encounters a situation like that or something worst.

Since Alice Young refuses to have help in her home, certain amenities can be put in place in her home to facilitate her . Also in this case a social worker can be assigned to her to ensure that her living can be improved through persuading her to be around individuals that can assist her. There are also Government provided facilities, which have trained individuals to provide the help she needs to prevent similar events from happening to her.

The services that i think will be of benefit to Ms. Young is a health care facility because she is in need of someone to care for her, help her with her health issues as she is a old lady and provide her with a safer environment where she will feel more comfortable to interact with others etc...
